The estate and local countryside offer a wealth of scenic and quiet trails through varying Norfolk terrain. We are on the southern edge of the broads so there are routes along the Wherry Trail, across marches and to the coast. There is also beautiful private woodland and farmland.

Estate staff & facilities

We offer modern stabling facilities with field turnout. Guests can bring their own horse safe in the understanding that they are secure and well looked after, and we also have a secure and alarmed tackroom if required. Lord Somerleyton was for a period of his career Equerry to the Queen – so you know the facilities are of the correct standard. Our equine staff are experienced and friendly, with the yard manager holding her BHS INT SM and an Equine Management degree. We currently hold a Riding Establishment Licence and are now a BHS Approved Hacking Centre. Visiting horses are required to have been wormed regularly and an up to date flu vaccination certificate brought for viewing.

Accommodation

For guests we can offer accommodation at Fritton House our lakeside Boutique hotel or we can offer self catered accommodation in our woodland lodges. Both are very close to the stables for easy access and piece of mind. Parking for horseboxes or trailers is available on site.

Activities programme

Fun, relaxation and great riding are the main aims. If you want to stay in bed until breakfast time and saunter out just in time for the ride at 11am, your horse will have been brought in, brushed and tacked up ready for you. You’re also very welcome to get up a bit earlier and bring your horse in from the field and prepare him/her for the ride. We can offer guided rides or issue you with local maps so you can make your own way at your own pace. The majority of riding is off road.

There is a new 60m x 25m indoor school which may be booked by appointment just 10 minutes away. This has a new waxed surface and brand new show jumps for those who wish to jump / school their horses. We are 20 minutes from Great Yarmouth race course and for those interested in racing and there are several shows and equestrian events throughout the year, www.horsedates.co.uk .

Horse riding & hotel packages

We offer full week packages, midweek and weekend breaks, as well as trail rides for the more experienced rider. Mid-week breaks are becoming increasingly popular and you can choose between 3 or 4 day breaks. Our hotel packages include full board accommodation – English breakfast, light lunch, afternoon tea and three course evening meal. Self - catered packages can be organized so they include a light lunch if you prefer.

Around the Estate

There are some great walks around the estate. Around the lake, through the woods or across the farmland.  Somerleyton Hall is widely regarded as one of the best examples of an archetypal Tudor-Jacobean mansion and one of the most beautiful stately homes in Britain whose rooms and gardens are open to the public. A visit to the Hall is included in your package.
