Formerly known as Fritton Old Hall, Fritton House has its origins back in the fifteenth century when it was thought to be an Inn for sea traders and smugglers navigating through the Lound lakes from the North Sea to the River Waveney and beyond. Fritton House is not grand but, we like to think, very comfortable and intimate, serving fresh, locally sourced food, much of which is supplied from the estate’s natural larder.

The real magic of Fritton House is its setting on the edge of Fritton Lake, the jewel in the Somerleyton crown, and arguably the most beautiful stretch of water in East Anglia. Tucked between the North Sea on one side and the Waveney river valley on the other the Somerleyton Estate is a traditional farming estate covering some 5000 acres, much of which is accessible via a network of bridleways and footpaths, and its unspoilt countryside serves as a comforting buffer from the world outside.

With Fritton country park on the adjacent site Fritton House is a great environment for kids, a secluded retreat for weekend breaks and ideally situated for business travellers visiting Lowestoft, Great Yarmouth and Norwich. Other attractions on the estate include Somerleyton Hall & Gardens and the Duke’s Head, our gastropub over looking the River Waveney. In addition, we are expanding on existing walks right around and across the estate for those keen to stretch their legs. If you have time to explore the locality further, the Suffolk Heritage coast which runs from Southwold to Aldeburgh about 25 minutes away offers seaside towns and Adnams beer whilst the Norfolk Broads National Park can be accessed from St Olaves only a mile away for adventures by boat! Clean sandy beaches run from Gorleston to north of Great Yarmouth both of which offer more traditional activities such as fun fares and arcades. For retail therapy and culture Norwich is a rival to any major regional city and, further, Beccles and Bungay combine traditional market towns with excellent antiques and tea shops and restaurants.

Throughout May and June we will be offering introductory rates for both mid-week business customers and weekenders alike. Please contact Sarah Winterton to make your booking.

The Victorians enjoyed the formal gardens and rowing on Fritton Lake long before the present Lord Somerleyton opened Fritton Country Park in 1971, so it is a great pleasure to be able to continue the development of the venerable 'institution' that is Fritton Lake. Following the success of the Duke’s Head, our gastropub in Somerleyton, Fritton House is a continuation of the same theme, serving fresh seasonal and regional menus and also offering a boutique hotel with nine contemporary en suite bedrooms.

Fritton House is well positioned for business travellers visiting Norwich, Great Yarmouth or Lowestoft and an intimate comfortable hotel for weekends and short breaks from which to explore the unspoilt acres of the Somerleyton estate which our family has been privileged to enjoy since 1863 and which we are determined to preserve and enhance. Our ancestors were successful entrepreneurs in Victorians times and the Crossley cross symbol was created by the Crossley family in the 19th century.

The emblem has always stood as a hallmark of quality and we intend to ensure those high standards continue here at Fritton House and across the estate’s businesses. the Hon.Hugh crossley and all those who work here look forward to welcoming our first guests at Fritton House and will make every effort to make sure you never want to leave.
