We were so thrilled to find this lovely review of a Somerleyton wedding online. Nothing speaks louder than the opinion of one of our brides! So, with no further ado, here’s Victoria’s experience in her own words:
‘My husband and I booked Somerleyton Hall for our Wedding which was held on 23 May 2015. We wanted a traditional English wedding within a grand setting. We hired Somerleyton Hall for the whole weekend, which allowed us to start our celebrations early. We had access to the whole of the west wing of the hall and gardens. We were blown away by the hospitality of the owners Hugh & Lara who made, us and our family and friends all very welcome.
We had a beautiful afternoon tea set in the walled gardens on the Friday afternoon where our family and friends could come and greet us before the wedding on the Saturday. We had a huge variety of freshly made sandwiches, scones, cakes and shortbread, alongside tea and champagne.
In the evening, we had a 3 course meal set in the amazing dining room of the house. This was designed by the head chef who specialised in Asian cuisine and he blew us away with each course.
We played games and had a nightcap in the magnificent library before going to bed.
All of the rooms in the house are just breathtaking, with very traditional decor and stunning views of the grounds. Bedding and towels were provided and guests had their own bathrooms. We all felt instantly at home and everyone had a great nights sleep.
There is also a separate cottage in the stable yard which was 4 beautiful double bedrooms which we also decided to have for friends. We charged guests who were staying in the hall and cottage for the weekend to cover the costs of hiring the hall. They were all blown away with quality, service and food provided over the weekend.
On the morning of the wedding all of our guests who stayed had a beautiful full English breakfast. I was brought a light breakfast to the bridal suite whilst getting ready with my mum and bridesmaids.
Our wedding breakfast was also designed by the head chef. We were able to choose from a huge variety of food options and felt very comfortable asking for requests which were accommodated for.
We had the opportunity to taste-test our chosen options at The Fritton Arms which is also owned by Somerleyton.
All ingredients used were locally sourced or grown by Somerleyton Hall which made it feel even more personal.
The Fritton Arms is about 10 minutes from the hall and also has accommodation. The rooms here are also stunning and the food is fantastic! Perfect for wedding guests who didn’t stay at the hall.
The beauty of Somerleyton Hall for a Wedding is you have a so much choice for your ceremony and reception. Our wedding coordinator advised us on the best options based on our needs. We chose to have our ceremony in the ballroom as we wanted to make as much use of the house as possible. We used the walled gardens for canapes and cocktails post ceremony. There is also a Maze which was great entertainment for our family and friends.
The morning after the wedding we had a beautiful breakfast with our family and friends in the breakfast room. We then all were able to enjoy the grounds until 1pm.
The hall and gardens make stunning back drop for photos and with weather on our side that day, we have the most amazing photos that we will treasure forever.
If you are looking for a venue with wow factor then Somerleyton is a must! We had the best weekend and would do it all again if we could.
Thank you again to Hugh, Lara and the Somerleyton team for making it an unforgettable weekend.’
